John,
The stock market is in freefall. Donald Trump’s reckless trade war with Canada and Mexico is looming, threatening higher prices on everything from cars to groceries.
As recession fears grow, Trump and MAGA insist the chaos is all part of the plan—that Americans must endure “pain” on the path to Trump's mythical vision of American greatness.
It’s all bullshit.
Throughout the 2024 election, economists, Democrats, and even some Republicans warned that Trump’s policies would wreck the economy while benefiting only the wealthy. Now, not even 100 days into his presidency, those warnings are coming true.
The media’s double standard got us to this moment.
Throughout the campaign, Kamala Harris and Joe Biden were held to an impossibly high standard, while Trump was treated with kid gloves.
CNN even admitted it—on air. After Harris’ October 23 town hall, their anchors acknowledged she was judged more harshly than Trump, before quickly brushing it off as "just the world she lives in."
And it wasn’t just CNN. The New York Times was reportedly “at war” with the Biden administration throughout the campaign, relentlessly framing Biden’s presidency as a failure while downplaying the chaos and economic risks of a second Trump term.
Then there’s the media’s ongoing failure to deal with Trump’s nonstop torrent of lies. Instead of calling out his economic nonsense with real analysis, they covered his bullshit like it was all a game—debating whether his lies will "resonate" with voters rather than simply reporting the truth.
And the truth about his economic plans was always obvious: economists spent the entire campaign warning that Trump’s policies would accelerate inflation and push the global economy to the brink.
The result? Millions of Americans walked into the voting booth without a clear picture of the stakes. Now, as the economy spirals and recession fears mount, those same media outlets are feigning surprise—once again spending more time speculating about voter reactions than holding Trump accountable for his predictable, reckless failures.
COURIER was founded to take on this broken model of political coverage. We will hold Trump accountable and always put the truth ahead of clickbait and false equivalency.
In solidarity,
The COURIER Team
