Immunity for Chemical Companies?

Have you noticed billboards, print and digital ads promoting the known harmful chemical called "glyphosate?" 


Last session Bayer, along with their lobbyists and their potentially bought and paid for legislators, tried to pass legislation to give them immunity from lawsuits when citizens were harmed by using their products. It failed each time it was presented.

 

Well to nobody's surprise, it's back. It snuck in via Speaker "King" Moyle's pet committee in the House called, "Ways and Means" on February 21. It was then forwarded to the House Ag Committee for a hearing. It was presented as a "non-immunity bill."  But when you get down to it, it's an immunity bill. It makes it nearly impossible for consumers to sue Bayer or similar companies. 

 

**It's immunity. **

 

Here is a summary of the bill, 

 

***"House Bill 303 proposes to amend Idaho's product liability laws by establishing that manufacturers or sellers of products used in growing food or fiber fulfill their duty to warn consumers about associated risks if they comply with existing Idaho or federal statutes, rules, regulations, or government orders that mandate specific warnings based on scientific evaluations. This compliance creates a presumption of adequate warning, which can only be challenged if substantial scientific evidence demonstrates that the required warning is inadequate and the manufacturer or seller knew or should have known about this inadequacy at the time of sale."***


We must point out that between **King Moyle's personal campaign and his PAC, he received $51,000 from Bayer.** Bayer is HEAVILY involved in the "Modern Ag Alliance" which is the "alliance" spending countless dollars in Idaho to get this legislation passed. And remember, if they are pushing this, it can't be good for consumers.

 

Here's the brief hearing that took place in February.


It now has a bill number: H303.**This can't pass.**
