Team, I’m coming to you with a serious issue: Donald Trump is a threat to our public education. I’m sure you’ve seen the headlines but if not:Donald Trump is planning to sign an executive order to dismantle the Department of Education
Does the president have that power? No. Is it legal? Definitely not. Does he care? You know the answer to that.
But as we’ve seen, aided by the silence of Congressional Republicans, Trump has been signing Executive Orders to upend government agencies left and right. Funding for critical programs has been frozen, judges’ orders have been ignored, and thousands of federal workers have lost their jobs all in a span of weeks.
And the Department of Education is up next. Here’s what’s at stake: * Critical financial aid to public schools including grants and loans
* Research and data on education to improve outcomes and achievement
* Collaboration with states to address issues such as education needs for students with disabilities
* Policy development for federal financial aid and education reform
* Investigation and enforcement of civil rights in public schools
If all that wasn’t bad enough, Trump signed an executive order last week that seeks to block federal funding for schools that require COVID-19 vaccines. This is mainly red meat for his base, as by now most COVID-19 vaccine mandates have been dropped. But at a time when vaccine disinformation is rampant and disease outbreaks are cropping up across the country, this order sets a dangerous precedent for eliminating childhood vaccine mandates more broadly that would put our most vulnerable children at great risk.
So what are we doing about it? I’m glad you asked. 1. Democratic officials across the country will continue to robustly litigate against unlawful actions to gut Congressionally funded programs and agencies.
2. We will use our minority legislative power wherever we can to demand oversight and accountability.
3. And I will personally continue to listen to YOUR needs and mobilize my constituents to speak out against the administration’s actions.
That third item is one I need your help with. I’m always listening and taking your concerns to Washington, but right now with agencies and budgets being indiscriminately cut across all areas of government by a rogue executive office, it’s especially important that I hear directly from you on how YOU and your community are being impacted.
SHARE YOUR STORIES WITH TEAM DEAN
To help me fight back in Congress against the GOP and this lawless administration, I need to hear from you on how you are being impacted by their actions. I’m talking to community members and organizations about what they’re experiencing, and I’m taking responsibility for making sure those stories are heard and your needs are met.
So if you or someone you know has a story about the looming education cuts or concerns for the fate of public education, please share them with me here. [[link removed]]

Education is the golden standard of a functioning democracy. One of the lingering worries I have in these times is that our country is being robbed of so much by Trump and his corruption. They’re trying to steal our peace of mind and our collective hope for the future of our children and grandchildren. I won’t let that happen and I hope you won’t either.
I like to say, courage is contagious. Please share your stories with my team and join me and my Democratic colleagues as we fight for our children's future.
Always standing up for you,
Madeleine
