[Swing Left]([link removed])
Hi there,
A couple days ago, we announced Swing Left’s work on the most important election so far of the new Trump era: the Wisconsin Supreme Court race happening in just 42 days.
Elon Musk knows how critical it is, too—that’s why he just announced he’s putting an initial $1.5 million investment behind the ultra-conservative judge candidate.
The stakes couldn’t be higher. This race will determine whether liberals or MAGA conservatives hold majority power in a key state court, where the results of the next midterm and presidential elections will likely be contested. The outcome could determine which party wins the U.S. House in 2026 and the White House in 2028.
It’s why we’re getting to work in Wisconsin, last year’s closest battleground state. And because, so far, Elon Musk has wielded unfettered power with disastrous consequences. There's been no way to limit his influence—until now.
This race is winnable if we organize. Let’s match Elon’s $1.5 million investment with an investment of 1.5 million actions: in grassroots donations, letters and calls to voters, and door knocks—in support of liberal Judge candidate Susan Crawford and the Wisconsin Democratic Party.

FWD: Subject: [PREVIEW] Our first chance this year to put a real check on Trump
[Swing Left]([link removed])
Hi there,
It’s 27 days into Trump’s second term, and we’re all feeling some raw combination of anger, dismay, disbelief, and anxiety.
You may also understandably feel confused about what to do right now that’s actually impactful. Here’s where we can help.
As Swing Left’s executive director, Yasmin, [wrote last week]([link removed]), putting a stop to the damaging Trump/MAGA agenda will require Democrats winning back majority control in key elections, from state houses to the White House. All other remedies–while important–will only slow the bleeding.
Until Democrats are in control, there will be no true check on Trump and Project 2025. That’s why we’re focusing our electoral strategy on winning more Democratic power in the states this year and winning back the House of Representatives in next year’s midterm elections.
Of course, Democrats can’t simply rinse and repeat if we want to win back power in the midterms and beyond. It’ll take deep reflection and learning from the 2024 election. At Swing Left, we’re doing our own analysis as well as pressuring the Democratic party to improve its grassroots infrastructure, to ensure our impact is maximized in upcoming elections.
In the meantime, we can’t wait around to get to work. We'll share more on our initial 2026 plans in a few short weeks. Right now, we're announcing Swing Left’s involvement in the first competitive state race this year to have real, national consequences: the upcoming Wisconsin Supreme Court election.
On April 1st, Wisconsin voters will have the chance to prevent a conservative takeover of the Wisconsin Supreme Court by voting to maintain a progressive 4-3 majority. [You can take strategic action now by volunteering or donating to help liberal Judge Susan Crawford win a seat.]([link removed])
Maintaining or winning control of key state courts like Wisconsin is necessary to the larger, existential fight to preserve our democratic institutions. We need to secure both federal and state power—including in the courts—to derail Trump and Musk’s destabilizing agenda.
On a national scale, this election could also determine which party wins control of the House in 2026 and the White House in 2028—as the outcomes of these races will likely be contested in court in Wisconsin, an uber-competitive battleground state. It will also impact upcoming rulings in Wisconsin on abortion access, gerrymandering, voting rights, and workers’ rights.
Winning this election is doable. We’ve achieved some major wins in Wisconsin in recent years, including flipping conservative control of the Supreme Court in 2023 and ending the GOP’s supermajority in the state senate in 2024.
But, it’ll be a super close race. Republicans know just how high the stakes are, and groups like the ultra-conservative Americans for Prosperity are spending millions of dollars to support the conservative candidate. This is projected to be the most expensive judicial race in our nation's history.
Here’s what you can do right now to take action:
- [Volunteer from anywhere]([link removed])[.]([link removed]) Call voters to let them know about this critical election and help them make a plan to vote.
- [Knock doors in Wisconsin.]([link removed]) Join a canvassing event, if you’re local or traveling to Wisconsin.
- [Donate.]([link removed]*4mm2c*_gcl_au*MTQ0MzA3MTc3LjE3MzY1Mzk0NDM.*_ga*MTgwNjg5NDEyMy4xNzM2NTM5NDQz*_ga_54P262QFDB*MTczOTU2OTczNS4xNi4xLjE3Mzk1NzEyMDMuMC4wLjA.&utm_medium=email&utm_source=klaviyo&utm_campaign=states&refcode=klaviyo_20250214_states) Contribute directly to Judge Crawford & WisDems to support their organizing efforts for this race. Or, create and share [your own personal fundraising page]([link removed]) to raise money together with your friends, family, and neighbors.
We know there's lots of anger and frustration right now, in many directions. We feel that way, too. But Republicans want us to feel confused, misaligned, and hopeless. The reality is: we do have power.
Join us in the fight for the Wisconsin Supreme Court—and let’s turn anxiety into strategic action.
