Happy Black History Month, John!
Obviously we celebrate Black History year-round, but we take this month to really focus on the love and sacrifice that Black Americans have put into this country.
I wouldn’t be in Congress without trailblazers like civil rights icon and Congressman John Lewis who made sacrifices for a better future – sacrifices like getting arrested over 40 times in his lifelong fight for equality. Rep. Lewis knew that progress requires forging on, even (especially) in the difficult times.
Now, John, we’re seeing Black History being scrubbed from American history right in front of our eyes. Fascists like DeSantis and Trump are banning books and unraveling whole government agencies to erase our stories.
So while there’s no doubt that right now is a difficult time, I ask you to remember this quote from Rep. Lewis:
“Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.”
John, we can’t let them undo decades of progress and centuries of heroism. Please, rush a donation right now so I can keep making some good, necessary trouble in Congress and fighting for the preservation of Black History. >>
