John,
Trump and congressional Republicans are pushing a cruel bargain: slashing vital resources for education, children, and working families in exchange for immigration raids in schools, churches, and hospitals, along with a militarized presence in communities. Meanwhile, Congress is inflicting immeasurable harm on vulnerable communities―all while the ultra-wealthy continue to reap generous tax handouts.
Before leaving for recess, the House Budget Committee passed a budget proposal that paves the way for deep cuts to food assistance and health care to turbocharge family separation and mass deportation along with tax breaks for the wealthy.
While $1.5 trillion in cuts to human needs programs are being proposed, the Department of Homeland Security would get a $90 billion increase and the Judiciary Committee would add an additional $110 billion to fund Donald Trump’s mass deportation agenda.1
Trump’s mass deportation machine is so extreme that it’s pulling agents from other federal agencies like the IRS, the FBI, and the ATF, sending military planes full of undocumented immigrants―including refugees and asylum seekers―to other countries, and allowing immigration officials to conduct arrests in sensitive areas such as houses of worship without warrants or special authorization.2
Send a direct message to Congress and demand they reject funding cuts to critical human needs programs that fund Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda.

The House budget proposal cuts at least $230 billion from SNAP and other nutrition programs―putting 40 million people at risk of losing their access to healthy nutrition and raising out-of-pocket food expenses for tens of millions of households at a time when many of us feel the impact of higher food costs.3,4
They are demanding at least $880 trillion in cuts to mandatory programs including Medicaid―meaning 36 million people (or more!) would be at risk of losing their access to health care via Medicaid.5 If all of that wasn’t bad enough, there are Republicans calling for even more cuts―to the tune of an extra $500 billion that would deepen cuts to Medicaid even further.6
All of this pain is being inflicted in order to continue funding for Trump’s mass deportation machine and to extend tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy when they expire at the end of the year. While the current Senate budget proposal does not outline deep cuts across important human needs programs, it still paves the way for turbocharged mass deportation by allocating $300 billion to militarize the border as well as communities across the country―and they are looking to pass their budget resolution in the coming days.7
We cannot inflict immeasurable suffering on vulnerable communities by denying people access to the services and programs they rely on so Trump and his sycophants can break up families and communities. Congress needs to hear from you ASAP.
More than $1 trillion in cuts to health care, nutrition programs, and education are being proposed in order to fund this cruelty.
Tell Congress to reject cuts to human needs programs and stop funding this mass machine of cruelty.
Thank you for all you do,
Dominique Espinoza
