Elon Musk continues on his rampage this week. His new target is social security.

Over the weekend, the top official at the Social Security Administration resigned in protest after DOGE attempted to access highly sensitive personal data. If DOGE succeeds, that means Musk would have access to 70 million Americans’ bank information, social security numbers and health histories.

We should all be worried about this. Elon Musk does not have the authority or the Constitutional right to access our private information. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I’m taking immediate action to protect the federal payment systems and limit access to government data.

I realize right now it feels like a game of whack-a-mole with crisis after crisis. I strongly believe that this is a fight we can win. We must take a stand against this grave overreach by an unelected billionaire who is, as we speak, tearing down our government institutions. This is the United States, and we have a democracy to protect.
