The SAVE ACT will disenfranchise millions (including some of our members). Tell our Reps: vote NO!
------------------------------------------------------------
H.R.22 ([link removed]) , the SAVE Act, has been reintroduced in the House after passing the House last year, but dying with the end of the session.

The purpose of this bill is to raise barriers and costs to deny millions of Americans access to the ballot by requiring all Americans to jump through certain hoops to prove citizenship when registering to vote. This bill disenfranchises nearly all married women and trans Americans who do not have a passport or a REAL ID by imposing requirements that will be costly and may be difficult or impossible to achieve.

Our legislators were asleep at the wheel and allowed this bill to pass under the radar last session. We cannot afford to make the same mistake this time.

Tell your House Representative: ([link removed]) vote NO on the SAVE Act.

** Tell your Representative: No Attacks on Sanctuary Cities
------------------------------------------------------------
H.R.32 ([link removed]) is a bill that makes sanctuary cities ineligible for federal funds. Its loose interpretation of the idea of a sanctuary city will allow the federal government to defund critical community programs practically at will. If enacted, this bill would create chaos and functionally blackmail our cities and states into aiding Trump's cruel plans for mass deportations—or lose funding for our schools, hospitals, transportation, and even housing.

Tell your House Representative: ([link removed]) vote NO on H.R. 32.

** Tell Mayor Lurie: Hands of MUNI!
------------------------------------------------------------
MUNI is considering cutting service this summer ([link removed].) in hopes of meeting a budget shortfall. We need to raise awareness over this serious issue, because the federal government will no longer be helping us meet the needs of our public transportation system.

For more information about the cuts being threatened, visit [link removed].

Call Mayor Lurie and tell him: NO to MUNI Cuts! ([link removed])

Looming on the Horizon
------------------------------------------------------------
Congress reconvenes from their recess next Monday. Nineteen working days later–at midnight, March 14–the federal government runs out of money. Without new funding, major domestic services and programs will shut down (military & police will continue).

Last year, Congress did not enact a single "budget bill" of the 12 required by law because of Republican obstructionism and partisan political manipulation. Since then, funding has been provided by a Continuing Resolution ("CR" or "Stopgap"). The current CR expires on March 14. If they don't pass the appropriation bills or a new "stop gap" by then, it's shutdown time.

Now Musk and DOGE are unconstitutionally claiming authority to refuse to spend the funds legally authorized by Congress. In the coming weeks, we must demand that our Members of Congress refuse to vote for any appropriation bill or CR until there is a clear and firm understanding with the White House that funds authorized by Congress will be spent for the specified purposes. Even if that means a shutdown.

** From the State & Local Team: What issues are important to you?
------------------------------------------------------------
Our state & local team has relaunched and are working hard to organize a powerful, sustained progressive movement in San Francisco! They’re looking for your feedback: what issues are most important to you?

If you missed the last survey, now’s your chance to also tell us who your Supervisor is. It’s very helpful for us to know the breakdown of which districts are most represented in ISF.

Fill out the Google Form here. ([link removed])

If you’re interested and on our Slack, please join the “#local_and_state_action” channel in Slack, and add your information to the Google sheet pinned to that channel.

If you’re not on our Slack workspace and would like to join, come to our next meeting (date TBA) and we’ll get you plugged in.

Last week to vote in ADEM! Time to get your ballot in
------------------------------------------------------------
Every two years, Democrats across California vote to elect the delegates who will represent them in the California Democratic Party. That time is upon us once again.

The process is called the Assembly Delegate Election Meeting ([link removed]) , or ADEM. We wrote in late 2020 about what the ADEM is for and how it helps build power ([link removed]) .

Each Assembly district will get to elect 14 delegates. You can now vote in the ADEM election ([link removed]) online, or you can vote in-person later this month. You have until 6 PM on Sunday, February 23 to vote online or to register for in-person voting. In-person voting will happen Saturday and Sunday, February 22–23 at locations up and down the state ([link removed]) .

For those looking for a slate of progressive candidates, our friends at The League of Pissed-Off Voters have linked to the Grassroots Rising slates ([link removed]) . Neither we nor the League have endorsed any candidates in the ADEM elections.

Act now: Get your free COVID-19 tests before it’s too late
------------------------------------------------------------
Now that Robert Kennedy has been confirmed as Trump’s Secretary of Health and Human Services, the sword of Damocles hangs over the free COVID-19 tests program. The Washington Post reports ([link removed]) that they’re already considering simply throwing the remaining tests out.

If you haven’t ordered yours yet since the current drop opened in September, you should order yours ([link removed]) right now.

** Want to help us do this work?
------------------------------------------------------------
