Friend,
I want to share a story with you—one about persistence and pushing the envelope to get things done.
Not long after I took office, a Southwest Ohio teacher approached me about the Social Security Fairness Act. She told me that public servants like her were losing Social Security benefits they’d paid into – just because they also earned a public pension.
For over 20 years, teachers, nurses, police officers, and public servants fought to repeal two unfair Social Security provisions that slashed their benefits. Every Congress, they tried. Every Congress, they were ignored.
But last year, we changed that.
When I got to Congress, I remembered the 1964 Civil Rights Act and how a rare congressional procedure – a discharge petition – forced a vote when leadership refused to act. So, we did the same.
In just nine days, we secured the 218 signatures needed to force a vote on the Social Security Fairness Act—and we won. Now, millions of public retirees are finally getting the benefits they earned.
This is how we win: by refusing to back down, finding new ways forward, and pushing until we break through. And that’s exactly how we’ll fight back against Trump’s reckless agenda.
From protecting Social Security to stopping Trump’s attacks on science, I promise you – we will keep exhausting every option.
Chip in today to keep up the fight.
Let’s keep pushing.
Greg
