In 2025, we’re living with the consequences of dark money in politics at every level — whether it’s Donald Trump handing control of the federal government to Elon Musk after Musk spent hundreds of millions of dollars supporting his campaign, or it’s Greg Abbott favoring his own donors with government appointments here in Texas — it’s eroding our democracy.
While political corruption can seem like an overwhelming problem to tackle, we’re focusing on doing what we can to attack it at its root. Last year, Ground Game Texas led our first campaign finance ballot initiative in McAllen, Texas, after hearing from residents there that it was a major concern. Our successful campaign resulted in a charter amendment that limits the amount of money an individual can donate to any candidate for the McAllen city commission or mayor, reducing the influence of big money in city politics and increasing the power of working-class voters.
By working with local communities to address campaign finance reform at the municipal level, we’re building a durable progressive infrastructure that contributes to the project of long-term political change across Texas. Can we count on you to be a part of that change?
