Dear Friend,
Since President Trump took office weeks ago, he has sent the federal government into chaos, signing dozens of executive orders on everything from freezing federal spending, to restricting access to abortion, to attacking trans people, to ending birthright citizenship and undermining climate progress.
He is everywhere all at once in an intentional effort to overwhelm us all and leave us feeling powerless and alone.
But we are not alone and we are not powerless. We have agency and we can and will fight back. With that in mind, I wanted to update you on my work in Washington to stand up for the rule of law and push back against President Trump's attempts to rule like a dictator.
Already, I have spoken out on the House floor against their efforts to control women’s reproductive healthcare decisions and violate due process for immigrants.
I have slammed the Republicans over their effort to ban birthright citizenship and their cruel response to the California wildfires.
In the face of Elon Musk’s unlawful dismantling of government agencies, I protested outside the EPA offices to make clear that the climate crisis is real, lives are on the line, and we won’t back down. We must continue to call out and push back against his lies.
I have joined my colleagues in opposing a freeze on federal spending that triggered an entirely avoidable crisis with state Medicaid, Head Start, and infrastructure programs being blocked from accessing the funds appropriated to them by Congress.
We are still fighting against Trump and Musk’s henchmen over their egregious data breach at the Treasury Department and we are doing everything we can in Congress, in the courts, and in the streets to prevent them from illegally seizing power and shuttering agencies like USAID and the Department of Education.
There are now over 55 pending lawsuits against Trump’s executive orders. The courts are one of the strongest protections we have, and we must ensure court decisions are respected.
We are facing a dangerous time for our democracy, and we all have to take responsibility for saving it.
I hope you find this update on my work for you helpful. To receive more updates like these, click here to sign up. If I can be of assistance with a federal issue or any other matter of concern, please email me here or call one of my offices listed below.
