The GOP wants a national abortion ban, plain and simple. And with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. now confirmed as head of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, they've taken a massive step toward making that a reality.
In his new position, RFK Jr. has direct control over the FDA and, more dangerously, the future of mifepristone, a safe and effective abortion medication that has been used for decades. Donald Trump has already given him marching orders to look into it — and during his confirmation hearing, RFK Jr. suggested he might revoke FDA approval of the drug.
We know exactly what that means: this is just the next step of the GOP's relentless push to strip away reproductive rights, state by state, ruling by ruling, until abortion access is gone entirely.
RFK Jr. admitted that he'll follow Trump's lead on abortion policy, stating "Whatever he does, I will implement those policies." That's a chilling promise — and a direct threat to millions of Americans' fundamental freedoms.
Because here's the truth: The vast majority of Americans are pro-choice. Now, the only thing standing between us and a national abortion ban is a strong firewall of Democratic pro-choice women in office: Democratic attorneys general who can file suit against illegal executive orders, Democratic members of Congress who can hold figures like Trump and RFK Jr. accountable, Democratic governors who can take them to court, and Democratic pro-choice women at every level of government who can fight for reproductive rights everywhere.
