We’re in the heart of tax season, and Elon Musk is seeking access to highly sensitive taxpayer information, including the IRS’s Integrated Data Retrieval System, which is the backbone of the agency’s taxpayer records.

Now, the Associated Press is reporting that Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is seeking to layoff thousands of IRS workers, potentially grinding the processing of taxpayer refunds to a halt, and making it easier for the wealthy and corporations to illegally evade billions in taxes.[1]

We’re demanding Congress intervene and stop this assault on our public institutions and the American people.

Take action now! Send a message to Congress demanding they block Elon Musk’s DOGE from accessing IRS taxpayer data.

It’s up to us to keep the pressure on Congress to immediately stop this executive overreach, which is seeking to access information on every taxpayer in the United States.

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is on the verge of securing access to the IRS’s most sensitive taxpayer data systems, including Social Security numbers, tax returns, banking information, and employment records.[1]

This is an alarming breach of taxpayer privacy and a blatant power grab. DOGE claims they need access to “fix waste,” but what they’re really doing is laying the groundwork for unchecked surveillance―not to mention economic and political exploitation―of taxpayer data.

The IRS is already preparing to lay off thousands of employees due to the Trump administration’s so-called cost-cutting measures. (Of course, we know they’re really trying to make it easier for their rich donors and big corporations to cheat on their taxes.) Now, Musk’s DOGE is circling like vultures, ready to seize control of its data infrastructure.

If Congress doesn’t intervene, Musk’s team could gain broad access to the IRS’s Integrated Data Retrieval System, the backbone of the agency’s taxpayer records.

We cannot allow this to happen. Tell Congress to keep DOGE’s hands off the IRS and protect our privacy.

This isn’t a hypothetical threat. According to The Washington Post, the IRS is considering signing a memorandum of understanding that would give DOGE staff unprecedented access to taxpayer data.[2]

Musk’s lieutenants have already faced legal challenges for their intrusive actions at the Treasury Department, and now they want even more power. If successful, DOGE’s access could turn the IRS from a trusted public institution into a tool for political manipulation.

Musk’s team is already embedded in key government agencies, and now they’re targeting the IRS. This is the same Musk who has shown a complete disregard for privacy and security in his businesses, including Twitter’s data breaches.

Once DOGE has its hands on IRS data, no American’s financial information will be safe. We must protect the integrity of our tax system from exploitation by billionaires and political operatives.

Take action now to demand Congress block DOGE from accessing IRS taxpayer data.
