These days, John, there’s a lot of nastiness in our politics. You only have to watch the news for a few minutes to see a report about Democrats and Republicans not getting along.

But in this time of polarization, I have a story of friendship to share…

Meet Dino and Poppy, my family’s furry friends. I promised my three kids that we could get a cat or dog if my Senate campaign didn’t advance through the primary last year. Ever the overachiever, I ended up opting for both!

Dino joined our family first, but as soon as we brought Poppy home, the two of them quickly became besties. While they might not agree on their favorite toy or the best treat (perhaps because Poppy will simply eat whatever she can get her paws on), they light up our home for my kids and me.

Dino and Poppy have found common ground, co-chairing a committee to hog all the space on my bed. If cats and dogs can do it, surely our country’s leaders can learn to come together to improve the lives of families across the country—as much as Dino and Poppy have improved ours.
