One year ago, 12 members of our community lost their lives in a senseless act of violence.
Today, we honor the victims and their memory -- individuals who were not only civil servants, but also fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, and friends who touched the lives of countless others, who were loved beyond measure. We will never forget them.
We stand in solidarity with the survivors and all those who continue to grieve the unimaginable loss of their loved ones. And we remember the heroism of the first responders who put their lives on the line to protect us, and the doctors and medical professionals who worked tirelessly to save those injured.
Our community has faced unspeakable tragedy, and the process of healing is ongoing. But in the face of enormous grief, I have witnessed how we have come together to respond with resilience, unity, and compassion.
And while we may not be able to gather in one place to commemorate this solemn day, in our hearts and our minds we stand united -- we are Virginia Beach strong.
I am proud to represent you. I will never stop fighting for you.
