Email from Rep. Miller-Meeks Miller-Meeks Weekly Script March 9th, 2025 WEEKLY SC℞IPT View as Webpage Rep. Miller-Meeks: Renewing the American Dream On Tuesday night, I had the honor of personally greeting President Trump and attending his Joint Address to Congress alongside my guest, Riley Gaines. After four disastrous years under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, President Trump’s speech was a much-needed reminder that strong leadership is back, and the American Dream is being restored. Iowans know what it means to work hard, raise families, and build businesses—yet under the Biden Administration, these values were put under attack. We saw out-of-control inflation, skyrocketing interest rates, an open border allowing drugs and crime into our communities, and foreign policy failures that emboldened our adversaries. But Tuesday night, President Trump laid out a bold vision to turn things around and put America First once again. One of the key takeaways from his address was his unwavering commitment to securing our borders. We all know the damage that Biden’s open-border policies have done—fentanyl pouring into our communities, criminals exploiting weak enforcement, and hardworking Americans paying the price. President Trump made it clear: his administration will finish the wall, reinstate Remain in Mexico, and enforce the law to keep Americans safe. Another critical focus was the economy. Iowans are feeling the pinch of Bidenflation every time they buy groceries, fill up their gas tanks, or pay their mortgage. But under President Trump’s leadership, manufacturing is returning, interest rates are coming down, and businesses—both large and small—are gaining confidence again. We saw it before, and we will see it again: when we cut taxes, eliminate burdensome regulations, and empower workers, America thrives. President Trump also reaffirmed his support for protecting women’s sports, something I’ve been fighting for in Congress. He knows that allowing biological men to compete against women is not just unfair—it’s dangerous. I will continue standing alongside leaders like Riley Gaines to ensure that our daughters and granddaughters have a level playing field. Our Commander-in-Chief showed that America is once again strong on the world stage. After years of Biden’s weakness emboldening our enemies, President Trump is focused on restoring peace through strength. He outlined his plan to end the war in Ukraine, bring hostages home from Gaza, and hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable. America cannot afford to be weak—we must lead with confidence. I left the Joint Address feeling optimistic and energized for the future. President Trump is fighting to get our country back on track, and I will continue working alongside him to deliver real results for Iowans. The American Dream is not lost—it’s being renewed. Let’s get to work. The Weekly Wrap Here's the Weekly Wrap from Washington DC! President Trump's Joint Address to Congress I was proud to attend President Trump's Joint Address to Congress! Representing Iowa's First District Had a great time at the Iowa Delegation breakfast! The entire Iowa delegation is committed lowering prices, boosting energy security, supporting farmers and eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse from our government. Had a great meeting with the Iowa State Association of Counties to discuss how we can better support county officials in serving their communities at the federal level. I had the opportunity to meet with members of the Enlisted and Officers Association of the National Guard of Iowa to discuss my support for National Guard service members and their families. Great to have Barry from the Mahaska County YMCA and Amy from the Washington County YMCA in DC to discuss our efforts to support Iowa's youth. Honored to have met with fellow Iowan Brad Whitmore and other veterans visiting DC with Veterans of Foreign Wars. Had a productive meeting with the Iowa Credit Union League. We discussed how easing regulatory burdens can enable them to better serve Iowa’s families. Had a great meeting with Mid America and Alliant, discussing how to keep Iowa powered through storms, while keeping prices low and energy abundant. Floor Speeches This Women's History Month, we should have been celebrating the passage of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, but 45 Senate Democrats decided to kill that bill. I applauded President Trump for his efforts to secure the border, which have led to the lowest border crossings in over 25 years. President Trump said it best: all we needed was a new president.
