This is Jonathan Saenz, President and Attorney for Texas Values. As we navigate the busy 89th legislative session, we are working tirelessly at the State Capitol every one of the 140 days to protect your religious freedoms, preserve family values, and celebrate the freedoms we all hold dear.
Just recently a young staffer at OUR TEXAS STATE CAPITOL was approached by a man in the women’s restroom! The young woman was preparing to exit the restroom when a male voice compliments her on her hair. Why is a male allowed in the women's restroom? If it is happening at our state capitol, then you know it is happening all over the state. Legislation has been filed this session to address keeping women’s spaces safe.
As a 501c3 nonprofit organization, the costs of this work can be substantial. To continue our efforts throughout the legislative session, we need to raise between $200,000 and $300,000 to sustain our important work. We humbly ask for your support to help Texas Values remain a strong and steadfast voice for our great State of Texas. Your generosity truly makes a difference.

#BanTheBible Bills are Back! |
Despite their 100% failure to pass last session and overwhelming opposition from Texas citizens year after year, Democratic state legislators brought back #BantheBible bills again in the 89th Legislature!
Hiding under the disguise of “sexual orientation” and “gender identity,” these harmful bills create special privileges for some and ban the free expression of Biblical beliefs, especially with regard to marriage and sexuality. Those who do not comply or agree with radical LGBT gender ideology could face fines, possible jail time, or other punishment by the government.
A little over a month into the 2025 legislative session and already a flood of aggressive #BanTheBible bills have surfaced, courtesy of many familiar faces (and some new ones) in the Texas House and Senate. A number of bills are focused on undoing hard-fought victories from last session to protect children from gender modification procedures such as Senate Bill 14 from the 88th Legislature.
The Texas Values policy team closely monitors each measure as it is filed and analyzes for harmful provisions. An example of one of the 13 bills we are watching—and why: SB 366 by Sen. Sarah Eckhardt Amends the Government Code to add persons who “identify” as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or queer to the definition of an “economically disadvantaged person.”

Our Priorities for the 89th Legislative Session |
Protect Life Texas Values will continue working to better enforce our pro-life laws and ban
the abortion pill in Texas. We will also prioritize ways to stop taxpayer funding by municipalities and political entities for out-of-state abortions and work to make adoption and foster care more affordable and accessible for families. Legislation we support includes: • H.B. 1806 by Rep. Candy Noble • S.B. 730 by Sen. Donna Campbell Texas Women’s Privacy Act
Texas needs a law to protect safety and privacy for women and girls in sex-separated facilities such as restrooms and locker rooms. Municipalities and school districts are taking it upon themselves to pass local ordinances and rules protecting students and citizens. It is time for uniform statewide statutes making it clear that (1) there are only two sexes, male and female, and (2) males cannot enter into
sex-separated spaces for females. Legislation we support includes: • H.B. 239 by Rep. Valoree Swanson • S.B. 240 by Sen. Mayes Middleton • H.B. 229 by Rep. Ellen Troxclair Sex Education Elimination/Banning Radical Gender Ideology Sex education instruction continues to be used by liberal school districts to promote
radical and divisive gender ideology to students in public school classrooms across the state. Forced pronoun usage, enabling students to socially “transition,” and school districts intentionally withholding crucial student information from their own parents are among the issues Texas Values will work to address legislatively this coming session. Legislation we support includes: • S.B. 371 by Sen. Donna Campbell
School Choice/Education Savings Accounts It is time for a fundamental change in Texas education. The status quo is not working and more and more parents are in favor of the money following the student so that families can take an individualized approach to their children’s education. Our team will be especially focused on safeguarding religious freedom and
stopping the inclusion of radical gender ideology language in any school choice proposal that moves this legislative session. Legislation we support includes: • S.B. 2 by Sen. Brandon Creighton Universal Conscience Protections Religious freedom remains a top priority for the 89th Legislature. Texas lacks adequate legal protections for both physicians and
health care facilities to decline in procedures that violate their conscience, religious purpose, or mission. In addition, the right of school employees to pray while on duty should be protected statutorily and the Ten Commandments should be posted in public schools. Legislation we support includes: • S.B. 10 by Rep Phil King • S.B. 11 by Senator Mayes Middleton • S.B. 619 by Sen. Kevin Sparks • S.B. 965 by Sen. Tan Parker
• H.B. 2816 by Rep. Tom Oliverson Expand Parental Rights Parents have a constitutional right to direct the education and upbringing of their children. Our team will work for students against inappropriate library materials and activist school districts who aggressively push ideology over education. Legislation we support includes: • S.B. 13 by Sen. Angela Paxton
• S.B. 810 by Sen. Bryan Hughes Protect Texas from Predatory Gambling In the last two years there has been an organized effort to legalize gambling practices such as sports betting and change the State Constitution to allow corporations to build casinos in Texas. We believe that the data is clear: mobile sports betting and other forms of gambling such as casino resorts are harmful to the family and are
predatory in nature. We will work to stop all legislation that legalizes casinos and sports betting in Texas. |
