Earlier this month, President Trump implemented a 25 percent tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, two of the United States’ largest trading partners. Because of these tariffs, the cost of cars, housing, gasoline, groceries, and so much more are expected to dramatically rise in the coming weeks.

At a moment when Kansans are already feeling the squeeze, this reckless economic plan will raise costs even further for Kansas families and put even more pressure on Kansas’ agricultural sector.

And don’t be fooled by the President’s spin: These tariffs are simply another tax on the American people. Less than a month after cheering on the passage of a $4.5 trillion tax cut for the ultra-wealthy, President Trump is forcing the rest of us to make up the difference.

In the coming weeks, we could even see gas prices rise by as much as 70 cents per gallon — a dramatic increase that would make it even harder for Kansas families to keep up with everyday expenses.

While President Trump continues to enact policies that exclusively benefit big corporations and the ultra-wealthy, I’m working every day to ensure Kansas families, farmers, and small businesses aren’t left behind — but I can’t do it alone.
