John, I’ve got some pretty incredible news to share:
We’re filing our quarterly report with the Federal Elections Commission this week. That means the whole world is about to learn a lot about our progress -- and I want to share a few highlights with you first:
- In the second quarter our team raised $328,478, meaning we’ve raised over half a million dollars for this campaign.
- The way we did that is the most impressive part. Over 7,000 people chipped in to support this campaign in the second quarter alone, with the average donation coming in at $31.
- Our report will show not one dime from corporate PACs or federal lobbyists.
Those numbers stand in stark contrast to how my opponent has built his campaign. Dan Lipinski’s last report showed he’d raised more than half of his money from corporate PACs. I refuse to build my campaign that way.
That’s why these numbers mean so much to me -- because I know they represent people like you. I am so deeply thankful for your passion, your encouragement and your hard work.
Now let’s put our progress in context. At this point in 2017, my campaign had raised $143,000 -- something that wasn’t easy, but a figure that is well below where we’re at today.
We fell just 2% -- 2,145 votes -- short in that election. Thanks to this team and all of you who helped build a fierce, grassroots campaign out of the gate, that’s NOT going to happen again.
Make no mistake: We’re up against a lot in this race, but thanks to you, I’m confident we’re ready for whatever comes our way.
