The legislation seeks to prevent unnecessary regulatory burdens from limiting the availability of widely used medications, such as Levothyroxine Sodium, which is essential for millions of Americans managing hypothyroidism. The bill ensures that small, family-owned manufacturers—like Long Island's Jerome Stevens Pharmaceuticals—can continue producing these critical drugs affordably and domestically. Andrew remains committed to ensuring that patients receive the care they need while strengthening American manufacturing and small businesses. Learn more here. ANDREW IN THE NEWS House GOPers ask RFK-run agency if Andrew Cuomo’s COVID nursing home order broke safety rules " House Republicans from New York are asking federal health agencies overseen by Robert Kennedy Jr. to rule on whether ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo violated federal policy by sending elderly patients to nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The congress members want Kennedy’s department to weigh in on whether Cuomo’s controversial March 25, 2020 order telling such facilities to accept recovering or 'stabilized' COVID patients matched federal guidelines during the early pandemic...The March 6 letter was co-signed by GOP Reps Nicole Malliotakis, Nick Langworthy, Claudia Tenney, Nick LaLota and Andrew Garbarino...'I’m demanding the CDC [Centers for Disease Control] and CMS [Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services] tell us the truth: Did Cuomo’s order follow federal guidelines, or did he defy them? Families of our constituents deserve answers, not excuses,' Lawler said. The congress members noted that a house subcommittee’s GOP majority report said the policy was “inconsistent” with federal guidance — and that even a Democratic minority report said the edict 'arguably contradicted federal CMS guidance.' The House GOP members also asked why Cuomo, who was previously married to Kennedy’s sister, Kerry, would have scrapped the policy less than two months after it went into effect if it met guidelines. WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Advancing Long Island’s Environmental Priorities This week, Andrew welcomed Mike Martucci, the EPA Administrator for Region 2, to his Patchogue office for a discussion on Long Island’s environmental priorities. Having previously worked with Martucci in the New York State Legislature, Andrew has seen firsthand his commitment to serving communities and ensuring that public policy is guided by common-sense solutions. His leadership at the EPA will be a major asset to Region 2, and Andrew looks forward to working with him again in this new role to advance effective environmental policies. Discussing Health Care Priorities This week, Andrew met with representatives from Catholic Health at his Patchogue office to discuss health care priorities and the needs of the community. Andrew appreciates the opportunity to engage in these important discussions and remains committed to supporting policies that strengthen health care for Long Islanders. Honoring Local Heroes with Guardians of Our Dependents This week, Guardians of Our Dependents hosted an event recognizing two outstanding members of the Suffolk County community. SCPD Police Officer Sean Manning was honored as Man of the Year, and Retired SCPD Police Officer Carl Glaser received the Humanitarian Award for their dedication and service. These individuals have gone above and beyond for the community and the families of those who serve. Andrew was proud to provide both honorees with flags and Congressional Certificates of Recognition in appreciation of their commitment to Suffolk County. Pet Adoption Event Held In Patchogue Over the weekend, Almost Home Animal Rescue and Adoption held a pet adoption event, giving local families the opportunity to meet animals in need of loving homes. Team Garbarino was proud to join the community and support this event and the wonderful work this organization does. CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Supporting Our Service Members Recently, Andrew’s casework team was proud to assist a dedicated service member in securing a long-overdue promotion. After being falsely accused of misconduct while deployed overseas, the service member complied with all command and law enforcement directives, ensuring full transparency. The investigation, which lasted over a year, placed his career progression on hold. He reached out to Andrew’s office for assistance in ensuring his case received proper attention. Thanks to the steadfast support and commitment of Andrew’s casework team, he has now been cleared for promotion to Chief Warrant Officer Four and anticipates his pinning ceremony in March. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government. If you need help dealing with a federal agency, contact our office and our team will get to work on your case. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Strengthening TSA’s Cybersecurity Framework Recent cyber incidents have exposed serious vulnerabilities in the nation’s transportation systems, underscoring the need for strong and effective cybersecurity protections. These incidents reinforce the urgency of ensuring that federal agencies responsible for transportation security have the necessary policies in place to prevent and respond to cyber threats. Andrew joined colleagues on the House Homeland Security Committee in writing to Acting TSA Administrator Adam Stahl, seeking information on TSA’s cybersecurity framework and its role in safeguarding transportation networks. The letter raises concerns about the effectiveness of TSA’s cybersecurity regulations, the agency’s coordination with CISA and other federal partners, and its efforts to address vulnerabilities in third-party software and supply chains that could be exploited by foreign adversaries. As cyber threats continue to evolve, it is critical that TSA takes a comprehensive and coordinated approach to securing the nation’s transportation infrastructure. Andrew remains committed to strengthening cybersecurity defenses and ensuring accountability in protecting critical systems from future attacks. Pushing Back on Costly Regulations With Andrew’s support, the House passed legislation to reverse burdensome regulations that drive up costs for families, stifle American energy production, and threaten domestic manufacturing jobs. One key measure overturned a Biden Administration rule that placed costly and unnecessary requirements on oil and gas production in the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS)—discouraging domestic energy development and increasing costs for consumers. Another bill blocked an overreaching EPA regulation on tire manufacturing, which imposed unnecessary financial burdens on businesses while providing little environmental benefit. Andrew remains committed to supporting policies that strengthen the economy, lower costs for families, and protect American jobs from unnecessary federal overreach. Thanks for reading!
