Tell the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that grizzly bears should never be trophy hunted: [link removed]

***********************************************************
Dear Friend,

Grizzly bears need our help. Mounting human-caused threats imperil any lasting recovery for the bears in the U.S. Northern Rockies. Last year emerged as the deadliest for the bears in the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem since they were listed under the Endangered Species Act. Nearly every bear was killed directly by humans or died after being trapped in manmade infrastructure.

Once roaming from the Pacific to the Great Plains, grizzly bears were hunted to near extinction and now occupy only four percent of their historic range. In 1975, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service listed this population of bears under the Endangered Species Act to save them from disappearing forever. These federal protections have been essential in fostering the slow recovery of grizzlies, however new threats have emerged that threaten their full recovery. States in Grizzly Country have adopted regressive anti-carnivore policies and allow for rampant human development in grizzly habitat, placing new stressors on the bear population.

Now the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is taking comments from the public about how to manage these bears. The Service is considering plans that would allow for more management killing and even trophy hunts of grizzlies. We need your help to stop these plans and instead urge the Service to incorporate the latest science and conservation practices for grizzly bear management. [link removed]

With the return of an anti-conservation administration to power, Earthjustice is again seeing attacks on bedrock environmental laws like the Endangered Species Act, which helped bring grizzlies back from the brink. During the last Trump administration, Earthjustice went to court and succeeded in stopping the planned trophy hunts of grizzlies in the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem. We are prepared to defend these bears again. But we still need your help to urge the Service to follow the science and maintain protections for grizzly bears to ensure their long-term recovery. Your voice still matters. Send a letter today.

The Service should work with the states to foster a unified population of bears that moves naturally through protected areas between ecosystems. This will help the recovering grizzly population achieve genetic diversity and resilience against mounting external threats. We need to protect what remaining grizzly habitat we have left so that bears can achieve long-term recovery in the Northern Rockies. Submit a public comment to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service today. Sincerely,
Mary Cochenour
