Donald Trump’s latest attempt to pad his approval numbers is his most transparent yet.
Polling data shows support for Trump falling among white evangelicals, a key faction responsible for his win in 2016. One official close to the Trump campaign called the numbers “pretty concerning,” especially as the president sees weakened support among other groups as well.
So of course, Trump organized a ploy to get his numbers back up -- he declared churches open for business, even without the approval of the CDC.
Trump has threatened to “override” any governor who disobeys his ruling, a clear breach of the limits of executive power. All just to get his poll numbers back up. Of course, Trump has outperformed low polls before, and it’s no guarantee this tactic won’t work to raise them -- what do you think of how the president is doing?
