As you will know, many of the rescued animals Born Free supports have lost their mums at a young age. However, it brings us great joy when we see both humans AND other animals stepping up to care for them!
You may have seen our recent update about Barbie the gorilla – rescued after her family were killed by bushmeat hunters in Cameroon, she was taken in by our partners at Ape Action Africa. After first establishing her health and wellbeing through loving care, she has now been introduced to an older female gorilla, Luci, who we hope will act as a surrogate mum to Barbie – the pair have been getting on well in their supervised meetings so far and the signs are promising!
