Hello, True Texans!

Nobody does it like you!  On Monday this week I was in awe of what we, together, have created for Texas. Do you have any idea the impact True Texas Project makes on a regular basis?  And we just got even bigger!

How?  Well, it was True Texan Day at the Capitol in Austin, but our Capitol day was not like other organizations' days.  Lots of groups have big rallies with impressive speakers.  There's a place for that, and we've hosted many of them through the years, but what tends to happen is that everyone shows up for one day for the extravaganza, but no actual work gets done.  So for our Capitol day, we changed it up a bit.

We brought in 80 NEW activists - EIGHTY! - and spent the day training them to be great citizen advocates. What does that mean?  They'll be back.  We just keep on growing and growing! True Texans are at work all across the state making an impact wherever they go.  You're pretty darn impressive!

And if you don't mind, I'd like to give a special shout out to our Hill Country satellite.  They had the wonderful idea to create goody bags for each participant. Nobody asked them to do it, and they didn't know who would be attending. But as part of the True Texas family and being right there in Austin, they felt like welcoming these new activists to their home.  It was very thoughtful and very much appreciated! We all play so many parts in saving Texas, don't we?

I want to recognize one other person from the trip.  We got to hear a brief update from freshman State Rep Helen Kerwin.

Rep Kerwin went through the 5 classes required to become a Certified True Texan AFTER she'd already been elected!  It wasn't a gimmick to trick voters or earn our endorsement. She saw value in our training and took us up on it.  You can too!  All 5 classes are online.  Thank you, Helen Kerwin!  She told our group that her top priority is eliminating property tax, and we're fully on board with that!

Don't Fall For It

I got to have a great one-on-one conversation with freshman State Rep Andy Hopper while I was in Austin.  We chatted about how the Undocumented Democrats (the RINOs) will soon be bragging about all the conservative legislation they are working on and/or passing.  Just remember, they are there to represent you and me.  So as they highlight things other than the priorities that we all voted on at the State GOP Convention last summer, you are completely justified in saying, "That's great, but what about the priorities?

(Notice "school choice" isn't even on the list)! With the clock quickly winding down, we need to focus, people!

Losers Are Winners

I gotta tell ya... for many of these freshmen State Reps... losing their first elections made them stronger.  Yeah, it's hard when we run candidates and they lose, but when they then come back even stronger and more resolute, we ultimately win. This includes some of our rock stars like Andy Hopper, Mike Olcott, David Lowe, Brent Money, and Shelley Luther.
