Dear AFGE Activist,
Recently, the Department of Homeland Security announced its plans to strip collective bargaining rights from 47,000 Transportation Security Officers who show up every day to ensure the safety of the traveling public.
This is a brazen attack on the workplace rights of these dedicated public servants and our union simply will not stand for it. For more than 20 years TSOs and union advocates have worked tirelessly to affirm the rights of TSA workers to fight collectively for their voice on the job. This administration has made itself the enemy of working families and this is just another attempt to weaken the resolve of civil servants.
We won't back down. Federal workers continue to hold the line. When workers' rights are under attack, we organize and fight back.
Here's how we can take collective action:
- AFGE members and allies are urged to call their members of Congress and ask them to make public statements urging the administration to reverse course on this directive.
- AFGE TSA locals should start contacting local unions in their area and their AFL-CIO Central Labor Councils to mobilize actions at their airports. Click here for a rally planning guide.
- AFGE activists can make their voices heard in their local media outlets by writing op-eds and letters to the editor. Click here for examples.
AFGE, make no mistake: we will combat this directive with everything we've got. We are evaluating our legal options and will aggressively pursue every possible avenue to defend our members and the safety of the traveling public against this un-American union busting and retaliation.
We will continue to keep you informed as more information becomes available and we encourage you to stay connected to our activist page at www.afge.org/AFGEStrong.
In Solidarity,
Everett Kelley
AFGE National President
