John, we are witnessing MAGA extremists steamroll our democracy in an all-out attempt to destroy the federal government. Mass layoffs of critical government workers. Purges of dissenting views. Systematic dismantling of essential services for millions of people in the U.S. and across the globe. Blocking key media outlets from the White House. Our nation’s founding democratic principles are facing an existential threat — and we must treat this moment with the urgency it demands. The ongoing assault on our government is a symptom of larger anti-democratic efforts — which include calculated efforts to create an unfair political advantage through gerrymandered maps. Remember, Republicans’ majority in the House is just three seats — the same number that Republicans gained in North Carolina after a new, Republican-drawn map was used in the last election. With margins so slim, every action we take and every resource we gather can make a meaningful difference in the fight for our democracy. The work we do today will help stop the harm being done by Trump and his enablers in the next round of elections — and beyond. We must be able to fund efforts to ensure fair maps across the entire country — from upcoming redistricting in Ohio to key state legislature and judicial races that will have lasting ramifications for our elections.
