John,

I hear every day from people who feel that Democrats haven’t done enough to protect the nation from Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and the hostile takeover of our executive branch.

I fully understand that.

We cannot campaign like this is another two-year cycle. We have to make ourselves visible, and actively work to be the solution that regains trust of everyday, working people.

I’m doing my part in what has been a busy several weeks, meeting people where they are, hearing their biggest challenges and how the government is or isn’t meeting their needs. I am grateful to learn everyone’s stories, experiences, and challenges – and to have the opportunity to be part of the solution.

I joined Indivisible, a pro-Democracy group, Chirla, an immigrants’ rights group, the TransLatin@ Coalition and several other advocacy groups, at Temple Beth Hillel to discuss how I’m fighting back against Trump’s reckless actions that are hurting countless California families.

I was energized by all those who are with us in this fight. Together, we’re finding ways to protect our democracy and our communities.

I hosted a town hall with California’s Attorney General Rob Bonta to discuss the legal battles we’re taking to stop the Trump administration’s abuses, and the legislation I’m working on with my colleagues to stop these unconstitutional power grabs, to return to the people the critical federal funding that Congress has already approved. I hosted my colleague Rick Larsen, the Ranking Member of the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, to see first-hand what Trump & Musk’s defunding of transit, water and parks projects means for our region. We toured a brand new transit system in our district, and the LA River Restoration Project. These projects are not only environmental wins. They make our city healthier, more livable, and more resilient for generations to come. We are proposing steps to protect these critical projects from the Musk chopping block.

And just this week, I hosted Los Angeles firefighter Eric Rowley at Trump’s State of the Union address. Firefighters did their job — now it’s time for Congress to do theirs. Together, we're demanding my colleagues stand with disaster survivors in California & across the country by unconditionally delivering life-saving aid.

I understand what a privilege it is to represent this community, and you have my word that I will continue meeting as many folks as I can and using my platform to push back against the worst of the Trump agenda.
