Today, we celebrate the fearless women who have shaped our communities, our state, and our future. Here in Connecticut, women have long been at the forefront of progress, demanding justice, breaking barriers, and driving change.

From Litchfield suffragist Isabella Beecher Hooker , who fought for women’s right to vote, to Constance Baker Motley , a New Haven native and civil rights icon who was the first Black woman appointed to the federal judiciary and played a pivotal role in desegregation efforts, to the trailblazing leaders of today, Connecticut women continue to lead with courage and conviction.
Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro has spent decades championing paid family leave and equal pay. Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz has spent her career breaking barriers for women in politics, fighting to ensure more women have a seat at the table in government, business, and leadership. Congresswoman Jahana Hayes , a former National Teacher of the Year and the first Black woman to represent Connecticut in Congress, fights every day for better education and economic justice.
Because of their leadership and the determination of countless women across our state, we’ve secured major victories: reproductive rights enshrined in state law, stronger workplace protections, equal pay advancements, and expanded access to affordable childcare.
But progress is not a finish line; it’s a path we must keep forging. At a time when MAGA extremists are actively trying to strip away our rights, we cannot afford to stand still. The fight for equity, opportunity, and justice is far from over, and Connecticut women are leading the charge.
