This
International Women’s Day, I’m thinking about Fannie Lou Hamer’s words:
"Nobody's free until everybody's free."

I’m reflecting on how the Republican party’s emphasis on freedom directly
contrasts with the reality that women live in today.

On how our president is currently slashing essential government funding
for health research, accessible housing, education and more — funding that
helps women overcome cancer, helps mothers put a roof over their heads,
and helps girls reach education that makes them future leaders.

How he’s attacking trans women.

How he bragged about overturning Roe v. Wade and ending the right to
reproductive freedom.

How he is dismantling diversity, equity, and inclusion policies — policies
that uplift Black women and help us break through concrete ceilings.

How the ways women across the country are being hurt by this destructive
administration are far-reaching. Trump and his GOP cult in Congress want
to divide us and take away our rights.

But this is not freedom. And our country cannot claim the freedom that
Republicans so desperately want to campaign on until all of us are free.

It doesn’t have to be like this. And that’s why we’re fighting for a more
just world for all women.

To all the women reading this, to all the women holding it down for their
families and showing up for their communities, to all the women tired and
hurting and angry this International Women’s Day: I hear you. I see you. I
love you. This Congresswoman fights for you.

I’m fighting for policies that give women access to economic freedom,
affirm our fundamental rights to reproductive healthcare, affordable
housing, and childcare. I’m fighting for marginalized women who have been
made the most vulnerable, and who are too often characterized by our
inequities.

I’m fighting to bring the women closest to the pain closest to the power.
