Marjorie Taylor Greene promotes "measles parties" for kids amid deadly outbreaks
MAGA diehard and QAnon dolt Marjorie Taylor Greene floated her latest incredibly stupid plan on Friday, suggesting a return to actual "measles parties" from the 1950s for unvaccinated children. Greene boosted a tweet — from an account that has also promoted flat earth conspiracies — highlighting the long-dead and very unsafe tactic where parents would intentionally expose their children to measles to build immunity. "Now, they demonize parents who refuse to vaccinate their kids," Greene complained. Measles, it apparently must be restated, is a highly contagious and potentially deadly disease that can lead to severe complications, including pneumonia, encephalitis (brain swelling), and even death. Before the widespread adoption of the measles vaccine, the United States experienced approximately 400-500 child deaths a year from the disease. Encouraging measles parties for children undermines decades of public health efforts aimed at eradicating the disease and poses risks not only to unvaccinated children but also to vulnerable populations, such as infants and immunocompromised individuals.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Legal action finally taken against dangerous Trump prosecutor
Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee made a formal referral of acting US Attorney Ed Martin to the DC Office of Disciplinary Counsel for "using his position to make improper, extrajudicial statements and threaten prosecution with the apparent intent of intimidating government employees and chilling the speech of private citizens." Brian Tyler Cohen and Glenn Kirschner discuss what it all means on the latest episode of The Legal Breakdown.

Marco Rubio and Elon Musk had knock-down, drag-out fight on Thursday — and Trump sided with Rubio
Welp, that didn't take long. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Elon Musk reportedly had a knock-down, drag-out fight at Thursday’s private Cabinet White House meeting that only ended when President Donald Trump intervened on Rubio’s behalf, according to The New York Times’ Jonathan Swan and Maggie Haberman. Rubio endured a torrent of criticism at the meeting from Musk — who accused him of firing “nobody” at the State Department — pouring fuel on a fire that had already been burning. "Mr. Rubio had been privately furious with Mr. Musk for weeks, ever since his DOGE team effectively shuttered an entire agency that was supposedly under Mr. Rubio’s control: USAID... After the argument dragged on for an uncomfortable time, Mr. Trump finally intervened to defend Mr. Rubio as doing a “great job," the Times reported. Folks, there's only so much oxygen in any given room. How long Elon can prance about the West Wing playing co-president is anybody's guess, but we fully expect more stories like this to surface in the weeks and months to come.

CDC reportedly planning study on debunked link between vaccines and autism
Two sources familiar with internal plans at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told Reuters the agency is planning to conduct a "large study" into potential links between vaccines and autism, a thoroughly debunked pet theory of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. that lacks any supporting evidence. The push comes amid a large — and growing — measles outbreak in Texas that’s infected more than 150 people, most of whom are unvaccinated children. In 2019, a decade-long study following 657,461 children in Denmark concluded that the vaccine that protects against measles does not increase children’s risk of autism, invalidating a pervasive theory among vaccine skeptics. The study was one of many that failed to show any link between vaccine use and autism.

US citizen detained by ICE questions his vote for Trump
A naturalized Virginia resident said he's questioning his vote for Donald Trump after agents from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained him this week when they were looking for another person on a deportation order. Machado was driving to work Wednesday with two other men when he was stopped by ICE agents near his home, he said. Confused by the scene, Machado said he didn't know what was happening and why agents surrounded his pickup truck. "They just got out of the car with the guns in their hands and say, 'turn off the car, give me the keys, open the window,'" Machado told Telemundo 44’s Rosbelis Quinoñez, who first reported his story. "Everything was really fast... They didn't ask me for any ID," Machado said. "I was telling the officer if I can give him ID, but he said just keep my hands up, not moving. After that, he told me to get out of the car and put the handcuffs on me." While Machado was eventually released, the two men with him were taken into custody. He still does not know why. Machado said the experience shook his faith in Trump's immigration enforcement efforts, adding that he thought the Trump administration would "just go against criminals, not every Hispanic looking, like, that they will assume that we are all illegals... That’s what they're doing, now. They're just following Hispanic people."
