Greetings Eastsiders,

It’s been an interesting few weeks here at the Capitol under the temporary GOP majority. I plan to write a comprehensive update in the near future, but in the meantime, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) needs your help.

Historically the site of unregulated dumping of municipal, commercial, and industrial waste, Pig’s Eye Dump has been slated for cleanup and restoration. Despite initial cleanup efforts in the early 2000s, significant environmental concerns — including contamination from PFAS, 1,4-dioxane, metals, and methane gas — remain at the site. Today, the land is also part of Pig’s Eye Regional Park, a large and under-utilized public green space with a 500-acre lake, archery range, and abundant wildlife. 

In 2022, I authored legislation to create the Pig’s Eye Dump Task Force, a multi-agency task force led by the MPCA, to develop a plan for cleaning up and restoring Pig’s Eye Dump. *Your engagement is an essential part of the task force’s work to develop this plan, and the MPCA would like to hear your vision for the site's future*.
