Happy International Women’s Day! Every day, women rise early to care for their loved ones, put meals on the table and build stronger communities to nurture a hopeful future. At Heifer International, we champion the power of women and what they achieve for themselves and their communities.

Today, I wanted to share with you a story about one woman whose strength and dedication serve as inspiration as we celebrate today.

Meet Yazmin. At 16, Yazmin left her rural hometown in Mexico to work in Cancun’s tourism industry to support her family back home. When the pandemic forced her to return home, Yazmin refused to give up. Searching for a better future, Yazmin joined the Milpa for Life project, which gave her the tools and training she needed to learn agricultural best practices, manage her land and grow her income.

Your support has changed Yazmin’s life. Thanks to her training, she now earns a dignified income in her hometown, surrounded by friends and community. Yazmin’s training has helped quadruple her corn production — and she now cares for a flock of 50 hens, which lay eggs to feed her family and provide additional income at markets.
