*Gov. Whitmer Proclaims the Second Saturday in March as “Faturday” to Honor Beloved Detroit Sports Fan Andy Isaac*
*LANSING, Mich. * – Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer proclaimed Saturday, March 8, 2025 as “Faturday” in Michigan to honor the late Andy Isaac, a beloved Detroit sports enthusiast whose passion, humor, and dedication to Michigan’s teams left a lasting impact on the state’s sports communities.
“Michigan has the best, most passionate sports fans in the country, and nobody embodied what we’re all about better than Andy Isaac,” said *Governor Whitmer*. “With his humor, dedication, and love for our teams, Andy helped make cheering on Detroit sports a heck of a lot more fun. He brought joy to people’s lives, always asking, ‘Tell me something good that happened to you recently.’ Today, we remember Andy and do something good for the state of Michigan by officially proclaiming Saturday, March 8 as Faturday. I lost my own mom to cancer, and I know that so many Michiganders have been through the same. As Isaac would say, ‘FTB!’”
Born and raised in Sterling Heights, Michigan and a graduate of Michigan State University, Andy Isaac was known for his engaging and witty commentary on social media, and became a staple in Detroit’s sports culture, by creating a sense of community and camaraderie amongst fans.
In 2006, Andy was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma and fought a courageous nearly 20-year battle with cancer. Throughout it all, he continued to show up for the Detroit community, using his platform to uplift others and spread joy. Faturday celebrates not only Isaac’s unique presence in the sports world but also the vibrant fan culture that defines Michigan’s sporting spirit.
Faturday is a tribute to Andy's favorite tradition, enjoying the ultimate sports-filled Saturday while indulging in your favorite foods, guilt free. Whether you’re grabbing wings from Sweetwater Tavern, Detroit style pizza from Michigan & Trumbull, coney dogs, or your favorite desserts, Faturday is about gathering with friends and family, rooting for your favorite teams, and treating yourself.
