A Message from Gabe:
Greetings Rhode Islanders,
This week, President Donald Trump addressed Congress and spoke about the strength and success he created for the country over the past 46 days. But, I have heard a very different story from working families in Rhode Island and across the country.
The President's speech was heavy on rhetoric but light on real solutions for the economic challenges facing Americans. Prices are still high, and Trump's tariffs will only raise them further. Health care remains out of reach for too many, and Trump’s policies favor billionaires over hardworking Americans. Instead of lowering costs, creating good-paying jobs, or protecting Medicaid and Social Security, his policies are pushing divisive culture wars and rewarding wealthy special interests.

I invited Joan M. Woods, operator of John Clarke Senior Living in Middletown, as my guest to this address to underscore the Republican budget could gut Medicaid. More than 65% of Rhode Island's nursing home residents depend on Medicaid. The President and his allies in Congress are discussing policies that could gut Medicaid, limit food assistance, and abandon the Affordable Care Act premium assistance —moves that would hurt thousands of families, seniors, and children in our state.
As a member of the House Budget Committee, I am fighting for policies that reflect our values. I've offered amendments to strengthen vital programs like Medicaid and Medicare while safeguarding the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, ensuring that working individuals aren't overlooked. Yet, conservatives continue to threaten devasting cuts to these essential programs.
I will always fight to ensure Rhode Islanders have a voice in Washington. While the President continues to push an extreme agenda filled with policies that largely benefits a wealthy few, I'll keep working to lower costs, expand access to health care, and invest in good jobs here at home. We deserve leadership that listens, cares, and ensures all Americans can thrive.
Sincerely, |

This week marks 60 years since the late Congressman John Lewis and marchers were attacked in Selma, Alabama, while peacefully demonstrating the right to vote.
As that fundamental right is still under attack today, I joined House Democrats in introducing the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Named for the late civil rights hero, the bill would help protect our democracy against voter suppression.

Cutting the Social Security workforce and shuttering field offices across our nation is a back-door cut — it devastates the Social Security Administration’s ability to deliver benefits to the public.
I am standing with Congressman John Larson and 150+ House Democrats in demanding the Social Security Administration stop Donald Trump’s policies which could gut this critical safety net that Americans rely on. |

Rhode Island and our nation continue to mourn the 67 lives lost in the Washington National Airport plane crash — including Barrington’s own Christina and Spencer Lane.
To honor their memory, the House passed a resolution to offer condolences to their family and friends, thank first responders, and ensure their memory forever remains in our hearts. |

As a Co-Chair of the bipartisan United Kingdom Caucus, it was my pleasure to meet with United Kingdom Foreign Secretary David Lammy and the new United Kingdom Ambassador to the United States, Peter Mandelson, to reaffirm the Special Relationship.
Now more than ever, we need to stand with — not antagonize — our allies to defend democracy against the forces of authoritarianism around the world.

The discoveries, treatments, and cures that neurologists are working on should see more investment — not cuts in the name of efficiency.
I was grateful to meet with Rhode Island
American Academy of Neurology
to discuss the importance of advancing neurological innovation. |

Nothing is more American than learning from our past to build a brighter future.
To reflect and learn from our state’s Black history, I joined Rhode Island Slave History Medallions and our community in Newport to commemorate Black History Month, the progress we have made so far, and the work to come. |

Trump's Foreign Policy of America First is Rapidly Turning Into Putin First and America Alone
CLICK HERE TO VIEW: Congressman Amo participates in the Europe Subcommittee hearing titled “Bridging the Gap: Turkey Between East and West”.
This week, in the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, I focused on something that affects all of us—America's role in the world and our commitment to democracy.
President Trump’s meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky last week was one of the most unnerving displays of foreign policy I’ve ever seen come out of the Oval Office. It was disgraceful. Ukraine is not just fighting for its survival; it is defending democracy against Putin's authoritarian regime. That’s why I called out those who would rather cater to Putin than stand by our allies.
I also raised concerns about Turkey's hypocritical double standard in pushing back on Russia’s invasion of Ukrainian sovereign territory while simultaneously supporting Azerbaijan’s brutal ethnic cleansing of Armenians. That double standard is wrong. As a member of the Congressional Caucus on Armenia, I have worked across the aisle to prevent U.S. security assistance from being used to fuel human rights abuses in Armenia.
Now is not the time for America to step back from our global leadership. Turning our back on allies only makes us weaker. I refuse to sit quietly while the Trump Administration lets that happen.
