Friend,
I just wanted to take a moment to break down the threat of Trump Administration's imminent plan to gut all the gun violence prevention policies we have worked so hard for in the past four years.
Countless life-saving policies hang in the balance and I want to make clear just what's at risk if they are repealed. This message may seem long, but it's important for all of our dedicated grassroots supporters to understand what we're trying to protect, I hope it can be a resource to you in the fight ahead.
And if you haven't yet, will you send a message to President Trump and make it clear the American people support gun violence prevention policies? >> [[link removed]]
Here’s are just some of the policies that could be gutted under the Trump Administration’s directive:
ATF’s “Zero Tolerance” policy which makes it easier for ATF to revoke a gun dealer’s license if they sell guns to prohibited individuals or fail to run a background check.
Here’s why its repeal would be dangerous: It will undermine the ATF’s ability to shut down the sources of gun trafficking rings while the president sends a dangerous message to gun dealers that they have a free pass if they break the law.
DOJ’s “engaged in the business” rule which expanded the number of gun sellers who must be licensed and therefore conduct background checks.
Here’s why its repeal would be dangerous: It will allow prohibited purchasers to circumvent background checks and illegally obtain deadly weapons from unlicensed sellers.
DOJ’s “ghost gun” rule which cracked down on the unregulated market of dangerous, untraceable ghost guns. Prior to the rule, ghost gun parts and kits could be purchased without a background check, mailed directly to anyone's home, assembled in minutes, and could not be traced when found at a crime scene — making them the perfect gun for use in crime.
Here’s why its repeal would be dangerous: Ghost guns were conceived to undermine all existing gun laws and removing this rule will allow countless prohibited purchasers, gun traffickers, and dangerous individuals to access untraceable guns.
DOJ’s “stabilizing brace rule” which helped regulate shoulder stocks that transform pistols, making them more lethal, essentially creating a portable, concealable assault rifle. Stabilizing braces were used to kill 9 in Dayton, OH; 10 people in Boulder, CO; 6 people in Nashville, TN; 5 people in Colorado Springs, CO; and those are just some of the mass murders perpetrated with so-called “stabilizing braces”
Here’s why its repeal would be dangerous: It will lead to a huge spike in unregulated, deadly short-barreled rifles and enable and embolden those who seek to carry out mass murder.
One of the most damning parts of the United State’s gun violence epidemic is that it’s spreading violence outside of only our country. One possibly repealed policy increased safeguards and transparency on gun exports, because legally exported U.S. guns were linked to higher rates of crime and violence across the world.
The Biden Administration took bold action to address our country's gun violence epidemic and brought violent crime to a 50-year low. If Trump guts life-saving policies, people will die.
We have one more chance to speak out before the Attorney General releases her report to Trump, will you send a message today? >> [[link removed]]
