Dear John,
Thanks to everyone who has taken action so quickly on this important bill! We wanted to let you know that we incorrectly listed the public hearing date as Monday. It is actually scheduled for Wednesday, February 26th, at 10 a.m. before the Environment and Natural Resources Committee in Room 216 of the Cross Building.
Apologies for any confusion.

Dear John,
The PFAS foam spill in Brunswick last August was an environmental disaster–the largest toxic foam spill in Maine history and the sixth largest nationwide– and it could happen again .
That’s why we’re advocating for a bill this session to provide funding and resources to allow safe removal and disposal of the toxic PFAS-laden aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) that has added to Maine’s PFAS crisis.
We’ll be at the State House on Monday to testify before the Environment and Natural Resources committee on this bill. Will you sign our petition now so we can show lawmakers just how many Mainers care about protecting people and the environment from toxic PFAS?

Recognizing the dire impacts of toxic chemicals in the environment, Maine has acted to phase out PFAS, including banning the use of firefighting foam that contains PFAS. The use of AFFF was required at airports and military sites for decades, exposing firefighters, service members and their families, and surrounding communities to toxic PFAS linked to dire health impacts.
Though safer alternatives are now available and manufacturers are required to recall toxic foam, large quantities of AFFF are still being stored at sites in Maine and around the country. This bill will help communities collect and remove AFFF to protect Maine people and the environment.
Thanks in advance for signing our petition [[link removed]] ! If you are interested in further supporting this bill by sharing testimony at Monday’s hearing, please reach out to our colleague Sergio Cahueque at Defend our Health at
[email protected]. He is available to provide talking points and help you prepare your testimony.
Thank you for your support!
