LA County Officials Provide Updates on Status of Debris Removal, Safety Measures, and Assessments for Testing

This morning, County officials provided the latest updates on the recovery process from the Palisades and Eaton fires, including the current status of Phase I and Phase II debris removal, the safety measures being implemented for the hauling of fire debris, as well as the County's assessment plan on soil, air, and water testing. *LA County Funds for Households, Workers and Small Businesses: How to Apply and How to Donate*

LA County’s Department of Economic Opportunity has two wildfire relief funds that are now open for applications. Both funds provide direct cash assistance grants, and applications are open through March 2, 2025.


* The *LA Region Small Business Relief Fund* [ [link removed] ]* *is for small businesses and nonprofit organizations that incurred structural loss, structural damage, equipment/inventory loss, or revenue loss because of the disaster. Grants can range from $2,000 to $25,000, depending on disaster impact.
* The *LA Region Worker Relief Fund* [ [link removed] ] provides cash assistances grants of up to $2,000 for workers who lost employment or income because of the disaster. This includes those who worked in the fire-impacted areas, but live elsewhere.

In addition,* *the LA County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs is launching the *LA County Household Relief Grant* [ [link removed] ] program for residents displaced by the Eaton and Palisades fires. The online application opens Feb. 26 and closes March 12, 2025.

Eligible households can receive up to $18,000 based on household size and composition. Read the criteria here [ [link removed] ]. The relief fund will distribute $32.2 million in financial assistance to wildfire survivors for housing costs, living expenses and funeral costs. Priority will be given to the most impacted households based on need, including insurance status, social and economic vulnerability, loss of life, health conditions, and other risk factors.

Governor Newsom proposes $125 million in mortgage relief for impacted residents of recent natural disasters

Governor Newsom announced today a new proposal to create more than $125 million for a mortgage relief program to assist homeowners whose homes were destroyed or severely damaged by recent natural disasters. The proposal also includes funding to extend an existing counseling services program which would help affected homeowners navigate their recovery. Click here [ [link removed] ] to learn more. 

 

*Rapid Needs Assessment Survey f**or Residents Impacted by the Eaton or Palisades Fires*

[ [link removed] ]The LA County Department of Public Health wants to learn the best ways to help people living in areas affected by the Eaton or Palisades Fires. Click here [ [link removed] ] or below to complete a short 10 minute survey to help Public Health better understand what you and your community need to recover. Your answers will remain private and you won't be asked for personal information that could identify you, such as your name, date of birth, or immigration status.

Right of Entry Form Submissions Continue to Grow

The online Right of Entry form is available for those opting into the government-sponsored debris removal program. Submit the form here [ [link removed] ]. The form also is available in Spanish, [ [link removed] ] Russian [ [link removed] ], Armenian [ [link removed] ], Korean [ [link removed] ], and Simplified Chinese [ [link removed] ].

If you have not yet submitted your opt-in form, please do so as soon as possible to take advantage of this debris removal program by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at no out-of-pocket cost to you. *The deadline is March 31, 2025. *

*For those who opt-out:* Property owners who choose to hire private contractors for fire debris removal can now receive a permit that allows home and business owners and their authorized private contractors to manage their own debris removal efforts while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal safety and environmental standards.
