I’m Katy Schmader, the new Organizing Director for the Texas Democratic Party. 

I never thought I belonged in politics. I was a Special Education teacher before I began phone banking for Beto O’Rourke in 2018. Since then, I’ve worked as an organizer in just about every corner of our beautiful Lone Star State. 

I’m so proud to be a Texan, but I’m astonished by how far Greg Abbott and Donald Trump have taken us back. Just this weekend I joined other resisters in protesting Matt Gaetz' keynote speaker visit in Williamson County. This abuser isn’t welcomed in our home, and Texas Republicans should not have invited him here.

Y’all, I’m so thankful for the Democrats across our state who have been fighting the good fight against Republicans. It’s up to all of us to continue that work, so I hope you will join us this year in building the Texas we deserve:

Texas is the battleground state. That is why building a sustainable infrastructure from the ground-up here is imperative to Democrats’ success nationwide. Only a robust grassroots movement can guarantee that all Texans have a voice as we move forward.
