Like it or not, we are in the deep freeze, so here are tips for embracing the cold

Staying inside isn't healthy. We need to get out for our mental and physical health. If you need a little nudging, here are a few tips for acclimating and joining the great outdoors.

1. Utilize outside places with an inside option. Choose venues where there is a open building on the premises to warm up, use the restroom, and have a snack. Ideally, there is a zoo or nature center near you.

2. Dress the part – wear wool. Wool absorbs moisture and traps heat. It is light and good quality wool is very soft. Wear it in underlayers, socks, and mittens. Don't focus on the weather, focus on how to dress.

3. Embrace snow activities. Snow is fun. Build igloos, make snow angels, go sledding, throw snowballs. The more you move, the warmer you feel and even welcome the cool air on your face.

4. Add to your time outside in little bits. Don't begin with an all-day outing. Dress up and walk around the block, then go twice. Increase your time gradually and it will become more natural.

So don't miss out on fresh air today.
