Dear John,

For the last three years, the UK and our allies have stood united with Ukraine - as they seek to repel Putin’s barbaric forces.

But these past few days, Donald Trump has chosen his side. Not with Zelensky. Not with democracy. But with Putin, the mass-murdering tyrant.

In doing so, he has betrayed not just Ukraine - but the UK and all of our European allies.

These are dark times.

But in moments such as these, I am only more convinced of the need for our Liberal voice in British politics to grow even stronger.

It is we Liberal Democrats who are clear: the UK must be on the side of Ukraine. Of democracy. Of freedom. Not siding with Putin and Trump, like Reform bootlickers want us to.

Donald Trump has made his stance clear too. It is only us in the UK and Europe who will protect Ukraine.

Liberal Democrats will continue to call on the Government to act at this pivotal moment. To show British leadership in Europe. To seize the frozen Russian assets which are beneath our fingertips, and repurpose them for Ukraine. And to boost defence spending and reverse the cuts to the Army, to keep Britain secure.
