WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH
Representative Matsumoto and Representative Reyes Oda marked Women’s History Month with their colleagues and reflected on the contributions of women in public service. They are grateful for those who paved the way and those continuing the work.
BUILDING CONNECTIONS FOR A STRONGER HAWAI‘I
Representative Reyes Oda joined the Office of Hawaiian Affairs' new leadership on February 25, 2025, at the State Capitol for an insightful meet and greet. She engaged with the Board of Trustees and the Executive Team to learn more about OHA’s mission, strategic plan, and legislative goals. Pictured alongside OHA Trustee and former State Senator Brickwood Galuteria, she remains committed to supporting initiatives that uplift the community.
WORKING FAMILIES DAY AT THE CAPITOL
Last week’s Working Families Day at the Capitol featured over 50 participating community organizations, which included HCAN Speaks!, Paid Leave Hawai’i Coalition, and Hawai’i Food Bank. The event partnered with the Working Families Caucus, Keiki Caucus, and Kūpuna Caucus, which Representative Shimizu has membership to. Representative Shimizu is pictured with Representative Kong, Representative for District 33 (Halawa, Aiea, and Waimalu).
CIVIL BEAT LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
Representative Matsumoto was a panelist at Civil Beat's Civil Cafe Legislative Update. It was an insightful discussion with legislators and community members about key issues shaping our state. Grateful for the opportunity to stay informed and contribute to the conversation!
STANDING STRONG FOR DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES AWARENESS
On March 5, 2025, Representative Reyes Oda connected with constituents during the 25th Annual Day at the Capitol event in honor of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. She engaged with community members, advocating for greater support and inclusion. This event highlighted the ongoing efforts to raise awareness and support for individuals with developmental disabilities.
25TH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES AWARENESS MONTH
Representative Matsumoto had the privilege of meeting with her constituents at the 25th Developmental Disabilities Awareness Event at the Capitol. She had a rewarding conversation with them, discussing the legislative process and offering guidance on how to effectively provide testimony. Grateful for the opportunity, she was honored to be part of such a significant event that brings attention to important issues surrounding developmental disabilities.
FAITH AND FOUNDATIONS: A VISIT TO OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP’S NEW CHURCH
Representative Reyes Oda visited Our Lady of Perpetual Help in ‘Ewa Beach for a tour of the new church construction on February 25, 2025. Guided by Father Ed Barut, she witnessed the remarkable progress and dedication behind the project. The soon-to-be-completed church will serve as a cherished place of faith and community for generations to come.
ENHANCING SAFETY ON KEAUNUI DRIVE: A REQUEST FOR SUPPORT
Representative Reyes Oda visited Holomua Elementary School on March 4, 2025, to assess safety concerns on Keaunui Drive. Principal Christopher Bonilla is requesting assistance from the State Department of Transportation or the City Department of Transportation Services to install yellow median posts along the entire length of Keaunui Drive, particularly in front of the school. This measure is crucial to improving safety for students, staff, and the local community.
