Team,

On March 7, 1965, Congressman John Lewis led over 600 activists across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, demanding the right to vote for Black Americans.

Their peaceful demonstration was met with brutal violence – a day now known as "Bloody Sunday." This pivotal moment in our nation's history galvanized support for the Voting Rights Act of 1965 which would ensure that every American's voice could be heard at the ballot box.

Vann and I had the opportunity today to attend the Bridge Crossing Jubilee to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March. Americans from across the country attended to honor the civil rights activists who came before us and recommit to the fight for voting rights — a fight that is as real today as it was in 1965.

Team, we must protect the right to vote and ensure our elections are free and fair.

Join me in honoring Congressman Lewis and the civil rights activists who marched before us. Add your name today to demand we put the power of our democracy back in the hands of the people by defending and expanding the right to vote. >> [link removed]
