This week, President Trump gave his first joint address of his second term, and of course it was full of his usual posturing and lies.

This speech was a glorified campaign speech where the president railed against Democrats for issues his administration caused while continuing to launch attacks on immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, women, and low-income families.

I wanted to make sure the president knew just how angry we are about the antics his administration has taken part in, even if that means standing up makes me a target of the GOP’s anger.

The GOP is trying to get us to stand down, but that’s never been my style. I won’t sit down when our democracy is being attacked, and I definitely won’t back down because spineless Republicans like Rep. Lawler are mad at me.

These attacks are coming from the party that is trying to cut healthcare for low-income families, firing veterans from their jobs, cutting cancer research funding, disrespecting our foreign allies, and leaving their constituents behind while they play politics.

Decorum went out the window when the GOP came for everyday Americans so they could give bigger tax cuts to billionaires. 

The hypocrisy of Trump and the GOP cannot be overstated. They are coming for my constituents, then acting surprised when I stand up against them.

I’m over the double standards, the political plays, and lies. My Democratic colleagues and I have had enough, and we’re fighting back.
