Friend,
Over the last few weeks, we have seen Elon Musk’s DOGE go after Social Security and Medicare, the US Treasury, the FAA, and other critical government departments.
Now, they’re setting their sights on the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the impacts have already been felt by veterans in the Hudson Valley and across the country.
Earlier this month, Trump closed 20 life-saving inpatient care beds in the Hudson Valley – fundamentally breaking the sacred trust with our veterans. The acute inpatient services that have been eliminated by Castle Point VA medical center offer support to some of our most vulnerable veterans, providing mental health and addiction services.
And just last week, DOGE fired over 1,000 employees at the VA – including veterans who served our country themselves. While the Trump Administration is painting these efforts as saving money, the truth is that it’s our veterans who will pay the price. Stripping back resources and eliminating employees will only lead to more veterans getting less care that they need and deserve.
It’s shameful.
We should be working to strengthen the VA and uphold our promise to those who answered the call of service – but what Trump and DOGE are doing is the exact opposite.
We cannot and will not be silent.
So, that’s why we’re asking: Will you sign our petition to stand with our veterans and support the VA? We need to send a strong message to Trump, Elon Musk, and the federal government that care for our veterans should not be on the chopping block.
Thank you,
Team Pat Ryan
