Dear Ward 8 Residents,
Women are the backbone of our families, our communities, and our city. Whether leading in the workplace, shaping policy, running businesses, or holding it down at home, their impact is undeniable. March is Women's History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions of women, both past and present, who have broken barriers and paved the way for future generations.
This month, Mayor Muriel Bowser has put together a series of exciting events that highlight the strength, resilience, and achievements of women across the District. Details are in the flyer below—don't miss the opportunity to participate.
These events are one way to honor the women who help shape Ward 8 and our city. Take time this month to celebrate the remarkable women in your life, share their stories, and recognize their impact.
Happy Women's History Month!

DC Council Unanimously Approves Bill to Strengthen Sexual Misconduct Reporting in Higher Education
This week, Bill 26-29, the "Institution of Higher Education Sexual Misconduct Reporting and Resource Accessibility Act of 2025," was on the legislative agenda for a first reading and vote on March 4th. Councilmember Henderson introduced it, and Councilmembers Frumin, R. White, Nadeau, Allen, Pinto, and Lewis George co-introduced it.
The bill aims to support survivors of sexual misconduct by requiring higher education institutions in the District to hire a confidential resource advisor (CRA) to offer emergency and ongoing support to individuals reporting misconduct. It also mandates amnesty protections for reporting parties in specific cases and annual sexual misconduct training for all students and staff and establishes minimum criteria for institutional misconduct policies. Additionally, it would require institutions to submit annual reports on campus sexual misconduct data to the Higher Education Licensure Commission.
The Council Office of Racial Equity determined that the bill's impact on sexual misconduct reporting outcomes for Black, Indigenous, and students of color in the District is inconclusive.
Bill 26-29 was approved unanimously by the 12 Councilmembers present at the fifth legislative meeting.
