Washington, D.C. – To start off the week, I voted to pass the bipartisan Safe & Smart Federal Purchasing Act to prioritize national security in federal purchasing. This bill will help remove adversaries like China from our supply chains!

I also supported bipartisan legislation to keep the U.S. Postal Service more accountable by requiring Postal Service truck contractors and employees to report within three days any vehicle crashes that result in injury or death.

As Chairman of the Republican Study Committee’s Budget and Spending Task Force, I’m working to craft a balanced budget that cuts spending, lowers taxes, and starts paying down our debt. Tuesday morning, I assembled the task force for a meeting to continue working on our budget.

Later, I appreciated the New Orleans hospitality from our Majority Leader Steve Scalise, who gave us a king cake to celebrate Mardi Gras!

In anticipation of President Trump’s address to Congress and the nation, I spoke with several local and national media outlets about my thoughts on President Trump’s plan to renew the American Dream. 

I was glad to visit with Speaker Newt Gingrich and Ambassador Callista Gingrich before the address!

It was great to hear from our president about all the progress he has made for our country in just six weeks. The Golden Age of America is here: our borders are more secure, DOGE has exposed massive fraud and money laundering of taxpayer dollars, we’ve attracted significant investments to grow our manufacturing industry, and we’re making great progress to expand domestic energy production and cut taxes for working Americans.

After President Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan that resulted in the deaths of 13 American servicemembers at the Abbey Gate bombing, I’m thankful the Trump Administration successfully captured and is bringing the “Kabul Killer” to the swift sword of American justice. This is a relief for the Gold Star families who deserve accountability for the killing of their loved ones!

On Wednesday, I joined my colleagues on the Small Business Committee to advance legislation that will help bring our job creators into the Golden Age of America. The previous administration imposed nearly $1.8 trillion in regulatory costs, so we are working to bring some desperately needed relief to our small businesses. 

That afternoon, my colleagues and I voted to overturn harmful, unnecessary, and expensive Biden-era regulations on our energy and manufacturing industries. I’m continuing my efforts to expand American energy, lower costs, and reshore manufacturing!

Later, I was able to meet with members of the Texas Association of Broadcasters. These North Texans help deliver the local news into our homes, keeping us informed of all the great things happening in our community.

It was wonderful to see some familiar faces from Irving this week, including Mayor Rick Stopfer, and City Manager, Chris Hillman! As a former mayor, I always value having strong partnerships with our local leaders and regularly meet with our NTX mayors.

Yesterday, I voted to censure Rep. Al Green for his disruptive behavior during President Trump’s joint address on Tuesday. He had the opportunity to behave respectfully, and repeatedly chose not to, which is why he was removed from the House Chamber.

As we’ve seen, institutions of higher education have been awarded with generous tax benefits while they enroll foreign students at the expense of hard-working Americans. I helped introduce the Protecting American Students Act to prioritize enrolling American students in higher education and go after universities like my alma mater, Cornell, that have been home to pro-Hamas protests.

I also introduced the Agency Accountability and Cost Transparency Act to protect our job creators by forcing federal agencies to only issue budget-neutral regulations. I’m working to shrink the size and scope of the federal government and end the cycle of costly overregulation.

Sadly, we lost a member of our Texas Congressional Delegation this week, Congressman Sylvester Turner of Houston. On Wednesday, my colleagues and I observed a moment of silence on the House Floor to honor his legacy. During my time at HUD, I worked with then-Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner to help Texans recover from Hurricane Harvey. It didn’t matter that we came from different parties; we worked together to deliver relief to our fellow Texans, and I’ve always respected his unwavering commitment to the people he represented.

This week, my House Republican colleagues and I voted to overturn Biden’s burdensome regulations to lower energy costs for our working families. This bill has now passed both the House and Senate and will be on the way to the President.
