Email from Massachusetts Republican Party MassGOP Monthly Update: March Edition Friends, Spring is almost upon us, and the MassGOP is charging ahead with momentum, determination, and a clear vision for the future! As Democrats double down on reckless spending, ignore transparency, and push extreme policies that put taxpayers last, we’re standing strong—fighting for accountability, commonsense solutions, and real leadership in Massachusetts. With critical elections on the horizon, candidate trainings in full swing, and grassroots energy growing by the day, we’re building a movement that can’t be ignored. The fight for our Commonwealth’s future is now, and with your support, we will turn the tide. Let’s get to work! Communications: Back in February, the Democratic supermajority and the Healey-Driscoll Administration chose to further the migrant crisis. The MassGOP, alongside Republican legislators in the House and Senate, strongly opposed any additional funding for what has become a full-blown humanitarian crisis—demanding meaningful reform instead. Democrats ended up voting to spend another $425 million of taxpayer money to sustain and expand the migrant crisis—rejecting every Republican effort to bring accountability and common sense to the process. Minority Leader Senator Bruce Tarr (R-Gloucester) proposed an amendment requiring universal background checks for individuals seeking Emergency Assistance (EA) housing, closing a loophole that allows applicants from outside Massachusetts—and even outside the country—to bypass meaningful vetting, yet Democrats blocked it. Senator Peter Durant (R-Spencer) introduced another amendment to prioritize homeless Massachusetts residents over newly arrived migrants, ensuring those who have paid into the system receive first access to taxpayer-funded services, but Democrats rejected that too. By voting to pass this supplemental budget without meaningful reform, Governor Healey and the Democratic supermajority have doubled down on wasteful spending, ignored public safety concerns, and disrespected hardworking taxpayers—all to appease the most extreme factions of their base. It seems like Democrats can’t let a month go by without an attack on transparency. In early February, Senate President Karen Spilka once again pushed back on the voter mandated legislative audit that was overwhelmingly passed through a ballot question back in November. We made sure to let Senate President Spilka know exactly where we stand. MassGOP Chair, Amy Carnevale stated, “The fact that Senate President Spilka and the Democratic supermajority are so resistant to this audit is a red flag.” The MassGOP will continue to stand in strong support of Auditor Dianna DiZoglio’s efforts and the 72% of Massachusetts voters who called for a full audit of the legislature. Republicans remain steadfast in their commitment to enforcing the state-mandated audit, standing with their constituents by introducing a rule change to grant Auditor DiZoglio the authority to audit the legislature. Predictably, the measure failed in a lopsided 24-127 vote, with every Republican supporting transparency and the Democratic supermajority blocking oversight. MassGOP Chair Amy Carnevale denounced the move as a blatant attempt by Democratic leadership to shield themselves from scrutiny. The voters spoke loud and clear when they passed Question 1, yet countless elected Democrats are doing everything in their power to ignore them. Instead of respecting the democratic process, House Speaker Ron Mariano and his allies continue to stonewall Republican efforts to uphold the will of the people. Over the past several months, Massachusetts residents have experienced exponential increases in energy costs, with skyrocketing heating bills making this winter especially difficult for many. The MassGOP responded to Governor Maura Healey’s letter urging the Department of Public Utilities to act immediately to provide rate relief, pointing out that the soaring costs are a direct result of her mismanagement of the state's energy crisis. Historically, Massachusetts' energy grid relied on a diverse mix of sources, including coal, gas, nuclear, and natural gas pipelines, which kept costs more affordable. However, Healey's administration has prioritized clean energy at the expense of traditional sources, including blocking new pipelines and promoting unprofitable alternatives like geothermal. As a result, Eversource has reported a 30% increase in gas delivery costs, while renewable energy solutions continue to fall short. MassGOP Chair Amy Carnevale called on the Governor to prioritize affordable energy for residents, rather than catering to special interests on Beacon Hill. Amid the backdrop of failure after failure under Governor Healey’s administration, she announced in February that she will be running for reelection. We know—and you know—that Massachusetts cannot endure another four years of policies that have led to a humanitarian crisis, including the migrant crisis, a mass exodus of residents taking their wealth with them, the least transparent government in the country, and soaring costs of living. MassGOP Chair Amy Carnevale put it simply: "Massachusetts needs a governor who will prioritize the needs of residents and put the good of the Commonwealth above political gamesmanship." The party has been in discussions with multiple potential candidates for the Governor’s office, and we are confident that Republican voters will have strong candidates to choose from in 2026 to take on Governor Healey. In more recent news, Mayor Michelle Wu joined a panel of progressive mayors testifying before the House Oversight Committee in defense of sanctuary city policies. However, unlike her counterparts, Wu was unable to provide basic data on the number of illegal immigrants entering Boston or the taxpayer money spent on individuals in the country unlawfully. MassGOP Chair Amy Carnevale blasted Wu’s lack of transparency, calling it a betrayal of hardworking Boston taxpayers. Carnevale criticized Wu for refusing to disclose the financial burden of her policies, stating that taxpayers deserve to know how their money is being spent on sanctuary city initiatives. Wu’s refusal to track expenditures related to illegal immigrants and her claim that sanctuary policies make Boston safer were also called into question, particularly in light of the case of Wiseteguens Jean Quely Charles, a violent gang member shielded from deportation under sanctuary policies until ICE intervened. Additionally, the city spent $650,000 preparing Wu for her testimony, raising concerns about the hidden costs of these policies. Carnevale emphasized the need for transparency and accountability, pledging that the MassGOP will continue to fight for the truth and expose the consequences of failed sanctuary city policies. RTC Spotlight: On February 12th, more than 100 Republicans and Independents from across Massachusetts gathered at La Cantina Winery in Franklin for a memorable Lincoln Dinner, honoring the legacy of America’s 16th president. The event brought together local Republican Town Committees (RTCs), state committee members, and elected officials to celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s enduring principles of unity, freedom, and opportunity. Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis delivered a powerful keynote address, with additional remarks from Republican leaders emphasizing the importance of grassroots activism. With nine RTCs in attendance—ranging from Bellingham to Barnstable—and the support of several state committee members and elected officials, the evening highlighted the strength of our Republican network. The Lincoln Dinner underscored the commitment of Massachusetts Republicans to continue Lincoln’s work by standing for liberty and ensuring a government that truly represents the people. With a strong foundation and growing momentum, Massachusetts Republicans are poised to lead with the values that have guided our nation for centuries. A special thank you to Franklin RTC Chair Dashe Videira and Medway RTC Chair Tim Harris for their outstanding leadership in organizing this incredible event! Municipal Spotlight: When have you heard of a major public project coming in under budget? How about millions of dollars under budget? Well, that’s what Taunton Mayor Shaunna O’Connell has done. While the media is full of stories about communities tens of millions over budget with their projects, Taunton’s Public Safety Building is coming in $10 million under estimated costs! But that’s not the only trend Mayor O’Connell is bucking. Taunton’s tax rate is $2700 below the state average. Have services been cut to the bone to do this? No! Under Mayor O’Connell’s leadership 20 percent of the roads in the city have been repaved. She has created new programs to help seniors, established free trash days, started helping hand funds, renovated parks and she is about to open a splash pad for children to name a few accomplishments. As a fiscal watchdog, Mayor O’Connell has been able to increase the city’s grant funding not by 25% or 50% or even 100%, but rather 800%. The city’s bond rating is now AA+ one of the highest in the state. Moreover, her city’s investment income has grown from $400,000 to $11 million which is the 4th highest in the Commonwealth. So is it no wonder why 179 new businesses registered in Taunton last year! Mayor O’Connell leaves no stone unturned when it comes to helping the taxpayers. RNC Report: Following a celebratory Inaugural event on January 20th, the Republican National Committee (RNC) has shifted its focus to the 2026 midterm elections—a cycle historically challenging for the party holding the White House. Chairman Michael Whatley, unanimously re-elected at the January Winter Meeting, is expected to announce key subcommittee appointments aimed at securing a Republican majority and ensuring President Trump can carry out his winning agenda. In regional elections, National Committeewoman Janet Fogarty was elected to the RNC Executive Committee, and Chair Amy Carnevale was elected to the Resolutions Committee—a position previously held by Janet. They will represent the Northeastern Region, which includes the six New England states, as well as New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Their leadership on these critical committees allows them to advocate for policies and resources that will strengthen Republican efforts in Massachusetts. National Committeeman Brad Wyatt has been actively working with the RNC’s State Party Strategies team to improve voter data and enhance outreach efforts for Republican candidates. Recognizing the importance of accurate information, he is collaborating with the RNC Data Trust to refine Massachusetts' voter data. In politics, as in computing, "garbage in, garbage out" applies—fresh, precise data is essential for effective voter contact, modeling, and outreach. With strong representation on key committees and a renewed focus on data integrity, the RNC is positioning itself for success in 2026 and beyond. Thank you!
