“ACLU Warns DOGE’s ‘Unchecked’ Access Could Violate Federal Law”

WHAT’S HAPPENING: Elon Musk is running our government unchecked by any authority. Most recently, the U.S. Forest and National Park Service were on the receiving end of Musk’s attacks, leaving thousands of park rangers unemployed and our parks vulnerable. Musk is putting our planet at risk, all while gaining access to our private information (like student loan payments, social security numbers, and more). The Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE) has gained access to sensitive data and taken it upon itself to handle the firing of employees in the Department of Education, the Treasury Department, and other departments that are critical to protecting our rights. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has repeatedly said that they will fight the Department of Governmental Efficiency tooth and nail over their outrageous cuts to our government. In an open letter to Congress, ACLU attorneys made it clear that DOGE’s access is unconstitutional. 

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN: Elon Musk is an unelected private citizen. His level of access to our data is incredibly unprecedented and dangerous. We deserve to know if our private data is being accessed or used illegally, and we must demand that Congress ensure we are protected.

WHAT CAN YOU DO: Only by protecting our government, our private data, and our rights can we even the playing field and make strides toward economic justice.
