Yesterday, Donald Trump’s White House released a cruel spin on this lighthearted genre, with a video (more akin to a snuff film) titled, “ASMR: Illegal Alien Deportation Flight.”

In Trump’s ASMR, the silly taps of nails on a venti Starbucks lid are replaced with the clinking of prison shackles. Subtle whispers are replaced with the whir of the deportation plane engines. And the sounds of careful paper tearing are instead the muffled footsteps of a deportee whose entire life has been uprooted.

It was an incredibly disturbing watch, but also a reminder of who we are up against and the duty that now falls upon us to silence the sound of these prison chains with action, to do everything in our power to stop the cruel machinery behind this suffering.

Given that there are 217 Republicans and 216 Democrats in the House of Representatives, I am doing my part to gum up the works by running in the Florida Special Election as the Democratic nominee — if I win, I deadlock the House and paralyze the MAGA agenda.
