Republicans are forgetting about the constituents they’re elected to serve.

We won’t be silent or complacent. IDP has been taking action over the past few weeks and encouraging Iowans to hold our elected officials accountable and draw attention to their wrong-headed votes.

Following mass layoffs and all four of Iowa’s D.C. Republican representatives voting to cut Medicaid — which over 678,000 Iowans rely on for health care — Iowa Democrats made sure that Iowans saw stories about it on their local news that night.

Last week, Republican lawmakers passed a law to remove gender identity from the Iowa Civil Rights Act, which allows groups to be discriminated against when they apply for basic needs like housing and lines of credit. Thousands of people rallied at the Capitol to make their voices heard and support our Democratic legislators voting “no.”

This is the kind of organizing that creates change. We aren’t going to let Republicans vote one way in D.C. or Des Moines and then talk another back home.

In March, county parties all over the state are holding their odd-year caucuses. These will be the perfect opportunities to convene and plan for the future we want, but we need to make sure we have the resources to help our county parties keep raising their voices and succeed.
